Hobbies

I have a multitude of hobbies which rarely are about sports. There are many other things I do periodically.

Self-hosting

I do like to know how to build a helicopter if everything in the world collapsed. Similarly, I do like to host many of the services that I am dependent on. Many of the memories that I have, every one of them digital needs to be preserved and viewable. Preserving them is one challenge, but able to view them repeatedly is a different one.

Origami

Paper folding has been a part of my childhood. Cutting paper has been a great pastime. But as I wanted to make more and more life like animals and flowers, I was drawn to origami, the culture, the practice and the determination. Cutting paper is seen as not good in my family. So only using a single sheet of paper without cutting or wasting it is a win on that front. Cementing the hobby.

Rock Climbing

This is a more recent one, I never had access or the means to be able to rock climb. Hiking has been a small part of me, moving to America it became bigger. As I went on solo hikes and I was slowly drawn to rock climbing. My university had the biggest climbing wall in all of CSU system which certainly helped. I wanted to go on a climbing trip which required top rope climbing and being certified by one of the staff members. So, I paid for it and challenged myself to get certified before the climb. The more I did it, the more fun I had. I was never a gym going person, the sense of achievement of climbing a route has been a good motivator and a nice workout in itself.

3D Printing

My office as just beside a makers studio of my department, it started with making a door stopper to a cable and then trying to learn soldering and making my very own trackball mouse. It was a great experience trying to learn how to look at prints, dusting off my old knowledge of engineering drawing. Amazed always by how it prints.

Embroidery

All I wanted to recreate an old hat I had, making a patch that is close to it was my goal for it, and having the machines all right there. I thought it was just 3d printing for clothes but it was not the same. Recreating the patch wasn’t easy but very fun.
